If they haven’t gone back already, the kids only have about a week left of the summer school holidays – so let’s make the most of them.
Summer is an exciting time for kids, with beautiful weather and plenty of time away from school, it’s nice to do a couple of fun actives in the week leading into term one, if only to make sure they’re heading to their first day back with a giant smile on their face.
In this blog post, we’ll share five fun summer activities that your kids are sure to love, as they prepare to strap those backpacks back on!
Beach Day
Australia has some of the world’s best beaches, and with over 10,000 beaches around the country, there is no shortage of places to have a fun-filled day in the sun. Whether it’s building sandcastles, playing beach volleyball or swimming in the ocean, there is something for everyone at the beach. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day soaking up the sun and enjoying the water.
Reminder! be sure to be sun safe and bring shade, sunscreen and water!
Zoo Visit
Zoos are a great summer activity and allow kids to learn about animals from all over the world. Take a stroll around the exhibits, feeding times and live shows about animal behaviour, habitats and conservation. Many zoos offer opportunities for kids to pet and feed certain animals, making the experience even more memorable.
Head to the Park
A day at the park is an excellent way to beat the heat while staying active and connected with nature. Australia offers an array of national parks, botanical gardens, and local playgrounds that allow your children to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. Encourage your kids to watch and learn about different species of birdlife or have a family picnic amidst the lush greenery.
Nature Hike
Australia is known for its stunning natural scenery, which makes it a perfect place for a nature hike. Take a breath of fresh air and explore the local area with an outdoor trail or bush walk. Hiking can be a great way to enjoy the great outdoors, get a little exercise, and learn about nature. It may even wear the kids out!
Reminder! Be prepared for all dangers involved with hiking and read as much information you can prior to your hike on the route you choose.
Backyard Camping
If you’re looking for a fun and cost-effective way to spend a summer night, why not set up a backyard tent and spend the night camping with your kids. This is a great way to introduce your children to camping in a safe and controlled environment and spending a night under the stars in their own backyard will be a great story to tell their friends when they head back to school.
Attend a Kids’ Event
Australia has a lively events scene, and many of them are tailored to kids, especially in the holidays. From outdoor movies and food festivals to live music and carnivals, there is something for everyone. Check out your local council website for event listings or visit local parenting groups on Facebook for more information about upcoming activities before they end.
Art and Craft Projects
If you’re keen to avoid the sun, stay inside and get creative with some art and craft projects with your kids. You can easily find supplies at a craft store, or simply use items from around the house. From paper crafts and painting, to creating necklaces and bracelets, you can help your child to discover a new hobby while enjoying each other’s company.
Museum Visit
For those hot summer days where outdoor activities may not be feasible, indoor activities like museum visits are a great option. Many museums offer interactive displays and kid-friendly exhibits that your little ones will love. Visit a museum and learn about Australia’s rich history, art and culture. Not only will your kids have fun, but they’ll be learning too.
Theme Park Visit
There’s still time to find a theme park, in fact it might even be a little quieter this close to school going back. From roller coasters and water slides to live shows and games, there is always something to do at one of Australia’s many theme parks. Kids will also love the carnival food, including chips, hot dogs and fairy floss before they get back to lunch box sandwiches!
Even though there is only a week or so of the holidays left, there are still plenty of fun summer activities for kids to squeeze in. Whether it’s a day at the beach, a play at a local playground, or a visit to the zoo or theme park, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t waste your last week of spending quality time with the family, go out and find yourself a suitable activity today.
