Master Suites – Inspiration from The Block 2022

Master Suites – Inspiration from The Block 2022

If you are looking for some inspiration for your master suite makeover, the Block offers plenty of direction. This year’s brief is to showcase luxury country living. From rich textures to fireplaces and deep bathtubs, we’ve seen plenty of indulgence and some beautiful finishes that will have you soaking in luxury!

Master Bedrooms

Colours inspired by nature

Mother nature is the best inspiration for colour. Colours that mimic the natural palette of the environment outside have a calming, synchronous effect. In this season of The Block, contestants have drawn inspiration from the Macedon Ranges for their colour choices. Greens, especially sage and olive greens, have been popular, as well as russet, copper and warm brown tones.

Tom and Sarah-Jane’s winning master bedroom was a prime example. They used an olive green feature wall paired with rich, russet soft furnishings and textiles to soothe the senses.

Feature walls

Feature walls are back in vogue, according to Neale Whittaker, at least. However, you no longer need to be limited by a single block of colour. Instead, we are seeing feature walls utilising textural surfaces like timber, wallpaper, fabric panels and tiles.

Soft, cosy sanctuaries

The master bedroom should be a sanctuary where you can let go of life’s stresses. Layered natural textures and warm colours have proven popular with the judges this season when it comes to decor. (Possibly due to the cool climate in the Macedon Ranges!) Think rugs, throws, cushions, and textured bed heads to create a soft, soothing, sophisticated vibe.

Mixing antiques with modern decor

Ankur and Sharon’s use of antique furniture in their master bedroom was a first on The Block. Whether you liked their particular interpretation or not, there is no doubt that antiques can add personality to a modern home.

Ultimately, a home should be a collection of things you love. Using carefully selected antique furniture can create a juxtaposition between new and old that feels fresh and surprising. Avoid a contrived look by sourcing antiques that relate to your location, interests or travel – something that tells a story you identify with.

Walk-In Robes

Statement lighting where it’s needed most

Make your walk-in robe glow with statement lighting. Nothing is worse than not being able to find what you’re looking for in a dimly lit walk-in robe. On the other hand, looking at your reflection lit by bright fluorescent lighting is equally as off-putting.

The Block 2022 contestants have showcased some elegant and practical lighting solutions for your walk-in robe. Recessed LED lighting within shelving and cupboards looks glamorous and provides a practical solution to an everyday challenge. Paired with a main light that gives off a softer, more flattering light creates a walk-in robe that Carrie Bradshaw would be envious of.

Clever storage

Nothing says luxury and practicality like a central storage island in a walk-in robe. Whether it be drawers or a storage ottoman, this is a great way to bring more storage and enhance the layout of your robe. Ankur and Sharon nailed it in their walk-in robe with a central storage moment featuring simple drawers and a countertop for extra storage.

En-suites

Double shower – but only if you have the space

Although not the winners of the ensuite reveal, Jenny and Dylan’s shower zone was simply magical. The symmetry they achieved with the window in the middle, and the double shower tap ware on either side was genius. Add the bench seat for practicality, brushed gold tapware and the overhead skylight, and this ensuite has pure day spa vibes.

On the other hand, Rachel and Ryan’s double shower is a prime example of where a double shower doesn’t work. There simply isn’t enough room for a double shower in this layout. Their bath area was delightful, though.

Wallpaper in the ensuite? Yes, you can

Feature walls are for smaller rooms too. There is no reason you can’t have a feature wall in your ensuite, and there is no reason it can’t be wallpaper. Recent improvements in wallpaper finishes make it a much more versatile option than in the past. For example, you can get vinyl wallpaper that is specially designed for wet areas and will make a super statement.

Jenny and Dylan used a delightful textured Grafico wallpaper in their ensuite as a feature on an otherwise blank wall. It brought a lovely sense of warmth and luxury to the space.
